It is a Santhal tribal village, framed in the rustic beauty of rural Bengal. There are 119 Santhal families residing in the village. Santhali art, craft and culture is woven into the community's life. Attractive designs adorn the walls and floors of their homes, with colors made from red earth and cow-dung. Tribal dances unfold in the open air, around the fire, to the rhythmic beats of the Madal, their traditional musical instrument, while oral Tribal myths and history remain etched in song and recitation. The Sonajhuri forest lies to the east and the Ballavpur Avayaranya forest area and bird sanctuary is to its south.
Visitors can also take pleasure in the tranquility and serenity of Santiniketan, the celebrated home of the Greatest Poet of India-Shri Rabindranath Tagore. Santiniketan is just a distance of 3 kms from Ballavpur Danga. Although the area is located within the tropical monsoon belt of Gangetic West Bengal, this area is less humid with maximum rainfall of 47 inches. During winter, temperature drops down to 5-4 Degree Celsius , while during summer it may rise up to 44-45 Degree Celsius .
